Salawat-o-Salam in Qabrastan / Cemetery/Durood-e-Roohi


 
الصلوة و سلام على سيد المرسلين

Upon entering the graveyard, recite the following salam and dua:    

اَلسَّلامُ عَلَیْکُمْ یَا اَہْلَ الْقُبُورِ الْمُسْلِمِیْنَ اَنْتُمْ لَنَا سَلَفٌ وَّ اَنَا اِنْ شاء اللّٰہُ بِکُمْ لَاحِقُوْنَ نَسْاَلَ اللّٰہَ لَنَا وَلَکُمُ الْعَفْوَ وَ الْعَافِیَۃِ


Then recite this special Durood o Salam:
Note: In any durood shareef as a mark of respect, it is recommended to recite Sayyiduna before the name of the Prophet صل الله عليه وسلم 
(Sayyiduna Muhammad instead of only Muhammad صل الله عليه وسلم)

  As it is sunnah to visit graves, during the night of nisf sha'aban (shab e bara'at), this durood is usually associated with Sha'aban. However, it can be read in any month of the year.

If the above durood shareef is read once at a grave, Allah removes the punishment of the deceased for 70 years.
If it is read 4 times at a grave, Allah removes the punishment of the deceased until the day of judgement (Qiyamah).
When it is read it 24 times, the reciters muslim parents (if in grave/qabr) are granted forgiveness (maghfirat) by Allah, He commands angels to keep visiting their graves until the day of judgement (Qiyamah).
