A great Alim and Naat poet Hazrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelwi (d. 1281/1921) states:
"Kafi is the sultan of the Na’t Goyan (poets who writes in praise of the Holy Prophet (صل الله عليه وسلم)) Allah Willing, I will be the Wazir-i-Azam (Prime minister)).”
Hazrat Kifayat Ali Kafi was executed (Shaheed) by the British Government following the Revolt of 1857 in India. The great poet continued to compose and recite na'at poetry in praise of the Holy Prophet while walking to the gallows. These couplets are from the last poetry written by him:
Naat Couplets by Hazrat Kifayat Ali Kafi (1858) |
Translation
Koi Gul Baqi Rahe Ga , Na Chaman Rah Jaayega
No flower will last (forever) nor will any garden remain
Par Rasoolullah Ka Deen e Hasan Reh Jaayega
But the Beautiful Religion of RasoolUllah (صل الله عليه وسلم) shall remain
Jo parhega Sahib e Laulaak par Durood
He who sends salutations upon the Master of Laulaak*
Aag se mahfooz us ka tan badan reh jaayega
Protected from fire, his entire body shall remain
Sab fanaa ho jaayen ge Kafi, lekin Hashr tak
All will be annihilated O' Kafi; but until the resurrection;
Naat e Hazrat ka zabaanon par sukhan reh jaayega
Talk of poetry of praise for the Master* on (people's) tongues shall remain!
*Refers to the title for the Holy Prophet (صل الله عليه وسلم)
